In 2018, I was arrested at the lowest point of my life.
At the time, I was working in child welfare, studying at the University of Nevada, Reno, and doing my best to hold together a life that looked stable on the outside. Behind closed doors, I was in an abusive relationship, battling addiction, and quietly unraveling.
Getting clean was the first step. Rebuilding my life — piece by piece — was the real work. After years of trial and error, 25+ arrests, and losing everything, I finally found purpose, which pulled me out of an addiction I never thought I would be in.
Today, I serve in Nevada’s victim services community as the Director of the Family Violence Prevention Program, am an MBA candidate, and am the founder of Beyond Bars Recovery Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals in recovery and those reentering society after incarceration. What once felt like the most shameful chapter of my life has become the foundation of my purpose. Turns out, rock bottom makes a surprisingly solid starting point.
This blog, From Survival to Service, is where I share the journey honestly: addiction, healing, leadership, faith, fear, entrepreneurship, and what it looks like to build something meaningful even when you’re still a little scared. (Spoiler: you don’t have to feel ready, you just have to start.)
If you’re rebuilding your life, rediscovering your purpose, or standing at the edge of a leap that terrifies you, you’re in the right place.
Rock bottom is not the end.
Sometimes, it’s the beginning of your life’s work.
Welcome.
